DON'T"scale transform" the "letterbox"

When I "scale transform" a clip, the tranformation applies on the Letterbox effect too. How can avoid this?

Final Cut Pro X, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Here's one way. Create a compound clip from the clip(s) you want to scale. Apply the letterbox effect to the compound. Open the compound and turn on the Transform tool and scale.

Basically, compound clipsare nested clips. They can be created from a multiple clips of different types (say, video and audio) and then edited as a single clip in a project timeline.They can be opened in their own timeline and the individual clips rearranged, and so forth.
